M&M Academy is the first educational institution in the Washington, D.C. area that offers an intensified Arabic Immersion Dual Language Program starting at five years of age.
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary a bilingual is a person who is using or able to use two languages with equal fluency. Recent research has shown that a bilingual is ahead of his peers cognitively advantageous in linguistic development, perception, and inhibitory control (better judgment). It has shown that bilinguals can benefit from significant cognitive advantages over monolingual peers in various settings.
Because Arabic is the language of the Holy Quran, it is important for students who have high aim for the future to be able to read, comprehend, and speak the formal language fluently.
- To stimulate kids interest and love towards the Arabic language
- To improve kids’ general Arabic language reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills with focus on conversational Arabic
- To give more attention to teaching students a list of vocabulary that are -according to research- of the most commonly used words
in the Quran. Those words repeat in the Quran often times. - To understand the meaning of the Quran
Key Components
The components for the Arabic Language targeted in this program are (but not limited to) as follows:
- Art: Islamic Art, Arabic calligraphy. Hands-on learning methods
- Comprehension: Understand conversation, vocabulary and its meaning, stories and main idea
- Conversation: Speak, converse using proper grammar and pronounciation
- Islamic Studies: Taught according to grade level with ability to read, write, memorize and understand Quran and authentic Hadith
- Language Arts: Write with expression and connecting the writing with drawings (shows understanding of concepts)
- Math: Learn math concepts in all levels starting with numbers, adding, subtraction, multiply, divide, and equations in accordance to
grade level - Outdoor play (gross motor): While implementing gross motor students engage using the Arabic language; students explore
outdoors using the Arabic language. - Physical Education and Health: All instruction in Arabic
- Quran: Students will learn to read fluently with proper speed, Makhaarij and Tajweed and memorize like an intelligent native student
will learn to. - Reading: Read and comprehend stories and books (includes retelling stories, recognizing main idea, main characters, to infer
characters, vocabulary and its meaning, read with fluency and Makhaarij - Science/Social Studies: Using inquiry (which encourages the use of the targeted language), engage in experiments and learn science
concepts in accordance to grade level/complete projects, attend trips to explore the targeted foreign language (Arabic) and other
cultures etc. - Writing: Write sentences to paragraphs to stories using proper grammar, spelling, connect letters and write neat
